WSC Marine Grade Epoxy
The marine grade epoxy material used is a very high-grade epoxy, giving excellent adhesion, high film coverage, and quick dry time. This material is rustproof and waterproof. It was designed specifically for use on properly prepared steel or masonry surfaces, including immersion (non-potable water) service. The epoxy is ideal for cooling towers, structural steel, piping, storage tanks, machinery, and equipment in petroleum refineries, pulp and paper mills, chemical and fertilizer plants, and sewage treatment plants. The epoxy’s exceptionally fast drying time (5 to 7 hrs.) allows equipment to be returned to service quickly. Our customers have found that this epoxy offers exceptional corrosion protection suitable for salt and fresh water immersion, low temperature cure to 0ºF (-18ºC), surface tolerant — abrasive blasting not required, excellent adhesion to tight rust, good adhesion to damp surfaces, self-priming for steel and masonry substrates, abrasion and chemical resistance is excellent, high solids — high film build with low VOC. The epoxy coating will add several years to the life of the towers.

WSC's Best Practice for Cooling Tower Maintenance
Nozzles & Manifolds
Plugged nozzles are a major problem to tower performance Regardless of the strainers or other measures taken to remove or reduce scale, nozzles become the most efficient filter in the system. Header pressure increased by plugged nozzles, will eventually build to point where nozzles will blow out. Then, most of the water will blast through the larger openings created by the missing nozzles starving the remaining nozzles and boring a hole in the fill media

- Available in a wide variety of plastics.
- Predictable performance.

Cooling Tower Surface Media
WaterSystem uses surface fill media designed and engineered to distribute water evenly over the entire fill area for high thermal performance. Integrated inlet louvers and drift eliminators complete this efficient high-performance crossflow media system.
- Superior air and water management for high thermal performance.
- Engineered herringbone surface for even water distribution.
- Honeycomb bonded edges on the air inlets and outlets.
- Offset glue bosses space the sheets and form a pack that is strong enough to be stacked one on top of the other in towers with fill heights over 10 feet. Interlocking alignment tabs allow perfect pack to pack registration providing a uniform and seamless installation.
Drift Eliminators
- Beveled drainage tip design reduces pressure drop by up to 25% (based on air velocity of 800fpm [4.1m/s]) over non-beveled design.
- Patented Mechanical Assembly (MA) technology for environmentally friendly, glue-free packs.
- Strong enough to span 6 feet, requiring a small number of support beams and reducing air blockage.
- Can be field-cut for a tight fit around columns and other structures without sacrificing structural integrity (Dri-Seals are recommended for maximum performance).
- Nests with adjacent modules to provide seamless drift removal by eliminating gaps between packs that can allow drift droplet bypass.
- Drift loss of 0.0005% circulating water flow (Test Method CTI-HBIK Standard 140; with proper installation and use of Dri-Seals).
- Material meets CTI Standard 136.

WSC Tower Fill System
The WSC Tower Fill System includes built-inair intake louvers, surface fill and drift eliminators. Our packing bundles will increase heat transfer efficiency of cooling tower, and extend the tower’s economic life.
The PVC compounds used in fill bundles have outstanding resistance to weather exposure and are nearly impervious to chemical degradation by alkali, acids, grease, fats, oils and biological attacks. PVC also has an excellent fire rating due to its self-extinguishing characteristics and meets or exceeds Cooling Technologies Institute PVC Materials Standards 136.

Tri-Packs®
WSC standard film fill bundles are a PVC 010″ cross-corrugated, edge bonded fill with optimally sized microstructure, dedicated glue points, high surface to volume ratio (48 sq. ft. per cu. ft.) and high thermal performance. This fill is designed for either crossflow or counterflow towers. A.015 film fill is available, along with a 68 sq. ft. per cu. ft. surface area for special applications.
The fill system includes a supports deck designed to keep packing material above the wet deck. This allows the hot water to flow downward more freely through the fill media carrying solids across the wet deck and into the sump. This raised area (approximately 3 to 4 inches) allows water and chemicals to flow underneath the fill bundles during daily operation, as well as during periodic cleaning.

WSC Can Fabricate and Replace Corroded Distribution Pans
Cross flow cooling towers utilize gravity distribution basins to distribute the returned hot water. Gravity systems are mounted on top of the tower directly over the fill media. Spray nozzles placed in the hot water basin to distribute returned water evenly over the surface fill. Constant movement of returned hot water eventually will cause the pan to fail.

Rust holes in the sidewalls and basin floors cause the return water to be redirected away from the surface fill. Splash outs, hot spots in the fill media and excessive water drawn into the fan plenum all reduce the tower’s cooling ability. Valuable resources of water and electricity are wasted until a replacement pan is installed. Call WSC today to see if we can contain some cooling tower budget leaks for your company.
